Saint-Saëns called his Third Symphony his most important work — a piece into which he "poured everything he knew." Conductor David Bernard and the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony took that claim seriously. Under the InsideOut Concerts® format — in which audiences are seated within the orchestra, surrounded by sound rather than positioned before it — the symphony was performed not as a monument to be admired but as a living environment to inhabit.
